He expressed ambivalence, suggesting that with such an even divide, it’s “hard to get excited” about making a change, despite his earlier campaign comments favoring its removal due to inconvenience and cost. While the U.S. Senate did pass the Sunshine Protection Act in 2022 by unanimous consent to make daylight saving time permanent, the bill stalled in the House and never became law, leaving the biannual clock changes intact. Without congressional action to either abolish or make daylight saving time permanent, any significant shift would still require legislative approval beyond Trump’s unilateral decision.
